Permanent Hiring of Temporary Workers is Picking Up
The use of temporary workers has grown in Buffalo, New York, increasing by 20 percent from 2010 to 2013. In addition, more and more of these temp workers are being turned into full-time resources. (via Bloomberg Businessweek)

Last week Fieldglass participated as a sponsor and presenting attendee at the SIG Global Sourcing Summit in Nashville. The folks over at SIG (Sourcing Interests Group) chose a great location and venue for the event, with perfect spring weather and accommodations close to everything downtown Nashville has to offer. For me, it was a wonderful break from the never-ending Chicago winter!

More and more companies are seeking out best practices for flexible workforce program expansion. eBay, Inc.’s Anita Scott and Teradata’s Rich Smith shared their experiences in a recent webinar titled, “A Go-To Guide to Global VMS Deployment: Best Practices from eBay and Teradata,” with additional insight from Staffing Industry Analysts’ Bryan Pena. As a Fieldglass account manager who has overseen a number of global expansions, I presented some of my own thoughts and best practices.

A new bill is being considered in California that would protect temporary worker rights. If passed, California would be one of the first states to hold companies who utilize temporary labor responsible for wage and safety violations. (via ProPublica)
 
According to the German Federal Statistics Office, temporary unskilled workers have had their wages increase at twice the average rate at 2.9 percent, making temporary worker pay more in line with that of permanent workers. (via Staffing Industry Analysts)
