Australian Taxation Office Achieves Improved Visibility into External IT Labor

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is the Australian Government’s main revenue collection agency. The ATO delivers various social and economic benefits and incentive programs, administers major aspects of Australia’s superannuation system and acts as custodian of the Australian Business Register.

ATO Workforce and Unique Compliance Needs

The ATO’s workforce consists of employees, temporary staff, external workers (IT and non-IT) and service providers delivering against Statement of Work (SOW) engagements. Its workforce is distributed across all states and territories in Australia, and is managed internally with four resources within the ICT business line. The team has a collaborative relationship within the organization, including stakeholders in compliance, finance, procurement, and various project and program offices.

Implementing SAP Fieldglass’ Best-in-Class Technology

The ATO must meet strict compliance guidelines, including how it manages its workforce. To track compliance more effectively, the ATO wanted to improve visibility into its external resources and costs as well as create more efficient processes for managing its labor and services. The ATO decided to implement a Vendor Management System (VMS) to provide a single point of reference to facilitate talent management and services procurement processes throughout the organization. After a thorough evaluation process, the ATO found the SAP Fieldglass Vendor Management System to be the best choice to help meet its business needs and requirements. The SAP Fieldglass VMS was implemented in a record 15 weeks, launching with approximately 300 IT workers across Australia.
