Looking out: the rise of the external workforce and its impact on internal functions

New research from Economist Impact

As the recovery from covid-19 continues, organizations will continue to rely on an external workforce as a way to navigate a risk-ridden landscape characterized by inflationary pressures, supply chain disruptions, and growing global competition.

A 2022 survey of 430 C-level executives by Economist Impact found that half of all survey respondents, regardless of function, say that their organizations will rebalance their workforce in favor of more external hires. This sentiment was strongest among chief supply chain officers (CSCOs) (61%) and chief financial officers (CFOs) (52.1%).

What is driving the growth of the external workforce? What does the greater use of the external workforce mean for procurement? Economist Impact addresses these questions and more in a special report focused on the external workforce: “Looking out: the rise of the external workforce and its impact on internal functions”.
